COCOON
An adventure across worlds within worldsFor 6+ years I worked on this lovely brain-breaking sci-fi puzzle adventure game called ‘COCOON’, published by Annapurna Interactive.
It was the first game developed by Geometric Interactive, the new studio by game designer Jeppe Carlsen and audio designer/composer Jakob Schmid (you may know their work on Limbo, Inside and 140).
As the first (and for a year the only) artist, I was responsible for developing the visual style of the game, and during production directed a small art team. For the game I designed the visuals and modelled just about anything, ranging from characters & creatures and the alien architecture to the strange worlds, and gameplay elements.



The colourful minimalist 3D style was very much an extension of my previous illustration work. And the biomechanoid-insect language was heavily influenced by the designs for the protagonist which in turn was inspired by the concept of the worlds-within-worlds gameplay.



I’m very proud to have been part of this otherworldly production. The game was released in September 2023 to critical acclaim, and has garnered many nominations, including Best Visual Art at the GDC Awards 2024, Artistic Achievement at the BAFTA Game Awards 2024 and won, amongst others, the Danish Spilprisen 2024 Award for Best Visuals.
I’ve spoken about my process and involvement with the game on podcasts and industry events, for example at Nordic Games in Sweden, at Aalto University in Finland for their GamesNow! sessions and on Gamereactor’s Spilstrøm.
